Barbara Nazelrod

Barbara J. Nazelrod C.R.N.P.

Barbara Nazelrod has many years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in various specialties but primarily in the surgical realm. In the early part of her career, she sought and acquired surgical skills and knowledge in General and Vascular surgery, working with physicians from Johns Hopkins and Maryland General. With that background and always having an interest in cardiac medicine, she decided to join the Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Division at the University of Maryland for 5 years and then relocated to the Eastern Shore and joined a Cardio-Thoracic Surgery practice (C.V. Surgical) in Salisbury Md. During this time, she gained expertise as a vein harvester and surgical assistant during open heart surgery. She also was responsible for the critical care medical management of those patients post-operatively. Those 10 years gave her the confidence in taking care of the critically ill during their most vulnerable times and learning the importance of open communication with patients and families.

For the last 20 years Barbara has practiced with Dr. Robert J. Davis a well-respected Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Salisbury Maryland. With her vast surgical experience, her first years with Dr. Davis were spent assisting in various Plastic and Reconstruction surgeries, hand surgeries and surgeries for skin cancers as well as following up with patients in the office. Over time it became apparent that due to the high prevalence of skin cancer on the Eastern Shore there was an urgent need for patients to access comprehensive skin cancer care and the practice evolved to diagnosing and treatment of skin cancers. For the past 10 years the practice became known for treating the majority of melanoma patients in the area and was designated as the Eastern Shore affiliate of the Maryland Melanoma Center. Barbara became adept in understanding and treating skin cancers, wound and skin care, common dermatologic conditions, performing skin screenings carrying out biopsies as well as in office procedures and surgeries. She used her knowledge to counsel patients and families about their pathology reports, diagnosis and proposed treatment, spending time making sure that information was clear, and questions were satisfactorily answered. She also became very committed to patient education about skin cancer, especially prevention, and has been involved in health fairs and community-based skin cancer screenings.

Barbara is licensed in the state of Maryland as a Registered Nurse and has a national certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner through the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center). She is a member of the (ANA) American Nurses Association and the (MNA) Maryland Nurses Association.

She resides in Salisbury with her husband Joe and two silky terrier rescues, Bella and Butch. Any free time is devoted to entertaining, traveling and spending time with her granddaughters and adult children.
